MLB supported the Air Force Research Lab’s COUNTER program at the 2007 Talisman Sabre exercises at Shoalwater Bay training area near Rockhampton, Australia. The Bat 3 flew nearly every day of the exercise often operating 30 miles from the base station. High resolution imagery captured by the Bat showed enemy movements that proved decisive in the red team’s strategy during the exercise. Lt Gen Leaf, Deputy Command of United Stated Pacific Command stated in a letter to Major Gen Bowlds that the Bat 3 “UAV provided invaluable intelligence which allowed ground troops to identify and target opposing forces. Also, that the system forced opposing ground forces commanders to conceal and evade.” Flights lasting 3 hours in winds of 20mph and rain were common and the Bat performed flawlessly throughout the operation.
