MLB Bat Demonstrates Autonomous Drops of Inert Submunitions

As part of a larger technology demonstration at Redstone Arsenal near Huntsville, Alabama, Convoy Followingan MLB Bat conducted autonomous drops of small inert submunitions. Each submunition weighed 0.75 pounds and was carried as underwing stores. The Bat carried out two drop runs in which the decision to drop was made onboard the aircraft. Both drops fell within the specified target area. The demonstration was part of a multi-step program to enable precision delivery of goods or munitions by the MLB Bat.

In a separate flight within the Redstone technology demonstration, a Bat was used to show off the video transmission capability of ultra-wideband equipment produced by the Time Domain Corporation (http://www.timedomain.com).
