The low operational and acquisition costs of the MLB Bat changes the economics of accessing aerial imagery for agricultural applications. The Bat may be used on a one-time basis to obtain ver y high-resolution (up to 2.5 inches or 7 cm per pixel) imagery or may become a regular part of farming or ranching operations through its completely autonomous capabilities. High-resolution infrared photography is also possible at the customer's request.

In June 2003, MLB flew a Bat on the slopes of the Mauna Loa volcano on the Big Island of Hawai'i for the United States Forest Service and the United States Geological Survey. The main objective of the flight was to obtain high-resolution imagery to aid in the location of invasive species in the native Hawaiian forest. The foresters and biologists were extremely pleased with the quality of the Bat imagery product and requested a wide array of subsequent imagery acquisition missions.
